FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Lockdown On The LEX—Ultimate Escape Rooms?
Lockdown On The LEX is the USS Lexington Museum’s newest attraction that will ultimately feature a series of escape rooms. Set aboard a WWII aircraft carrier, Lockdown On The LEX uses state-of-the-art technology programmed into historic naval equipment to provide thrill-seeking visitors the opportunity to crack the clues and “escape” the room, completing various exciting and challenging missions.
What is an escape room?
An escape room is a physical adventure game—reality entertainment—in which players solve a series of puzzles and challenges using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. Players are given a set time limit to unveil and complete the secret mission, which is hidden within the rooms.
What is Beat the Blast?
Mission #1: Beat the Blast is the museum’s first escape room experience that promises to be full of adventure and excitement as teams have one hour to complete their assigned mission…or face the threat of nuclear annihilation. Beat the Blast transports thrill seekers to the heart of the Cold War, challenging them to seek clues and solve perplexing puzzles in order to find and defuse a nuclear bomb hidden aboard the ship
Are visitors actually locked in the escape room?
No. Our escape rooms are simulated experiences. The doors are not locked at any time and visitors are free to leave the escape room as needed.
Is it safe?
Visitors to our escape rooms are monitored by our onsite Game Master via live-feed video cameras at all times. Our escape rooms have been inspected and approved by the fire marshal
How long does the escape room experience take?
The entire escape room experience takes approximately 90 minutes from start to finish. We do ask visitors to arrive 10-15 minutes early so they can review the safety video and sign waiver forms.
How many people are in the escape room at one time?
Our escape rooms can accommodate up to 10 people per session.
How much does the escape room experience cost?
The introductory price for the escape room experience is $35 and includes admission to the museum.
What are the days and hours of operation?
Our escape rooms are open during regular museum hours, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
How do I book an escape room experience?
To ensure availability, it is best that interested visitors book their Lockdown On The LEX experience online by visiting www.usslexington.com.
Can I wait and book an escape room experience while visiting the museum?
While we recommend you book your escape room experience online in advance, walk-in visitors are welcome based upon availability.
Do you offer any discounts?
We are not offering any discounts for the escape room at this time.
Are there any age limits?

Our escape room experiences are designed for adults and recommended for visitors age 12 and older. Visitors aged 12-15 must be accompanied in the escape room by an adult, and all visitors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver at check-in.

If you would like to include children under the age of 12 in your escape room experience, please reserve the entire room for your party so that everyone is comfortable.

How can I book a birthday party or corporate team building event?
First, you need to book your escape room experience online to ensure that the date and time you desire are available. Then, if you are interested in adding catering or special accommodations, you should call our Sales Office at 361.888.4873, Ext. 305 to make arrangements.
Are there any physical restrictions or limitations?
Because our museum is on an aircraft carrier, visitors should expect to climb ladders and navigate narrow passageways in order to participate in our escape rooms. Visitors who have limitations including claustrophobia, epilepsy, stroke, or anxiety issues may want to consult their doctor before participating in an escape room experience.
Can I get a refund or exchange my ticket if I can’t make it to my reserved time?
Unfortunately, because you are buying a ticket to a live event, we cannot offer refunds or exchanges. All sales are final.
Can we play the same game twice?
Absolutely! We welcome you to come back and try to “escape” a second time…but, please, no spoilers! We want all of our visitors to enjoy their escape room experience.
Where can we park?
Parking is available on the street and in the USS Lexington Museum parking lot. Tokens for the LEX lot can be purchased for $4 at the Admissions Booths.
Are there any nearby places to eat or drink?
The Mess Deck at the USS Lexington Museum is open during regular business hours and there are several restaurants within walking distance on North Beach. Keep in mind, however, that no food or drinks are allowed in the escape rooms.
Any tips or suggestions?
The surest way to “escape” is by sharing information openly with everyone else in the room. Talk to each other and work together to solve the puzzles. If you discover new information, be sure everyone in the room knows about it. Good luck!

If you arrive after the door to the room has been closed, you will be allowed to participate but there are no refunds or exchanges.
